Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Transport Suspends Collection of Taxes by NURTW.

The Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Transport has ordered the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union to stop the collection of all levies from transporters in the state pending the outcome of a petition before the house.

Three unions, Rivers Transport and Investment Corporation, Rivers Drivers Transport Corporative Union and Self Employed and Commercial Drivers Association had petitioned the House Committee on Transport over alleged extortion of its members by the NURTW.

Chairman, House Committee on Transport, Prince Ngbor Piccolo who briefed CME News Hub crew shortly after the committee met with the parties at the assembly complex, directed all parties to maintain status quo till investigation on the matter is concluded.

Prince Ngbor Piccolo further noted the chairman, Rivers State Internal Revenue Service - RIRS, Adoage Norteh who was absent from the hearing due to other official engagements, will appear before the committee on a later date to clear the air on multiple taxation as claimed by the parties.
